Bangkok Noi is one of the fifty districts present in Bangkok and is located in the western part of the city. Located on the western bank of the Chao Phraya River the district was once a part of the Bangkok Noi district but later became a part of Bangkok after Bangkok Noi was merged with it. The neighbouring districts surrounding Bangkok Noi from the north in the clockwise direction are  Bang Phlat, Phra Nakhon (across Chao Phraya River), Bangkok Yai, Phasi Charoen, and Taling Chan. Along with the native inhabitants, Bangkok Noi was earlier settled by foreigners, the Chinese merchants used to live here and after the fall of the Ayutthaya kingdom to the Burmese, the district was inhabited by the Portuguese. Originally the district was called Ratchakhrue because a Wat situated at a short distance, carried the same name. It was named as Bang Yi Ruea on 11th July 1916 and later, on 17th April 1939, the name was finally changed to Bangkok Noi and was merged with Bangkok in December 1971 which forms the current area of Bangkok. The total land area covered by Bangkok Noi is about 11.944 square kilometres while housing a population of 112,046 as per the records of the census conducted in 2017. The district is served by a railway station which was earlier known as Thon Buri and can easily be accessed by people living in Bangkok Noi district. The train goes through the Bangkok Noi station in the district.
